For years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been slowly making its way into healthcare.

There are now computer applications that analyze symptoms at lightning speed, providing a prioritized list of probable ailments that help doctors make patient diagnoses. AI-enabled programs also help clinicians read diagnostic images and in some cases analyze those images for the doctor.

Yet another role for AI involves the automation of processes that make care delivery possible.

TeleTracking’s intelligent workflow engines are leading the way in this area. One example is its updated ServiceTracking™ System, which features intelligent dispatching logic.

This intelligent workflow engine can receive and respond to various triggers to create and assign tasks to appropriate employees, based on proximity, skill set, priority and staff workload. It takes most of the guesswork out of the assignment process and automatically handles routine requests while supervisors focus on more complex and higher-priority tasks.

For example, when a hospital’s CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) activates a regularly scheduled preventative maintenance task for a medical device, it can trigger an automatic order entry request to the ServiceTracking™ System, which will assign an employee to the task based on the criteria mentioned above.

When a patient has been assigned to a room with an outstanding maintenance request, the ServiceTracking™ System automatically raises the priority of the work order to get the patient into the room sooner.

Efficiency will increase even more when the System is integrated with TeleTracking’s Real-Time Location System (RTLS), a plan which is already in the works.  Take IV pumps as an example, since they always seem to be in short supply, TeleTracking® RTLS can show the exact location and sanitization status of pumps, as well as maintain an inventory of which are available immediately and which are being serviced.

When the availability of pumps slips below par level, the System will receive a prompt to create a work order for more pumps. The intelligent dispatching logic will assign pick-up and delivery tasks based on employees’ skill set, assignment location, request type and priority.

Together, TeleTracking RTLS and ServiceTracking™ will create a system that perceives its environment and takes actions to maximize its chances of success.

Those capabilities can be applied to:

  • Hospitality Management
  • Security
  • Environmental Services
  • Laundry/Linen
  • Facilities Management
  • Biomedical/Clinical Engineering
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Materials Distribution
  • Courier Service (Blood Bank, Clinical Lab, Pharmacy, records)
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Catering/Conference Services
  • IV Team
  • Interpreter Services

A similar logic feature available in TeleTracking’s TransportTracking™ System minimizes the amount of time a transporter spends between jobs, dispatches the most appropriate transport employee and eliminates the need for a dispatcher.
